Katherine said, “In my therapy workshops, people often tell me that they are terrified of climate change and what this means for their children. Fear of climate change can cause a lot of despondency and the need for distraction and addiction to make the world feel like a better place.
In the last 12 months, many clients’ focus has really been on fearing the threat of countries such as Russia since their attack on the Ukraine. Now with Donald Trump’s recent seeming allegiance to Russia, people are starting to panic.”
Katherine has opened her retreat centre in The Lake District to specifically help people deal with these issues. Her Beautiful World retreats are designed to help people overcome these anxieties and be able to be present and focus on the little things with gratitude.
She said the name Beautiful World was born after quoting the Deserada to a client who admitted she was terrified of Donald Trump. I said to her:
“For all its sham and drudgery, the world is still a beautiful place.”
She said that that really helped her and reminded her to look at the blossom on the tree or the daily small acts of love to keep her focused on what is true.
Beautiful World retreats combines equine therapy with meditation, dynamic meditation, yoga, nature walks and swims and Jungian shadow work.
The House
Sunnycote, 39 Silverdale Road, Arnside. LA23 2EL
You will be staying in a beautiful large Victorian house near the sea in Arnside. Arnside and Silverdale is an area classified as Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of the Lake District National Park. You are a very short walking distance from a bay with views of the Lake District mountains and extensive forest and hills.
The House sleeps 16 in total. But for the silent retreat, we restrict the bookings to 10 people. This puts less pressure on the kitchen and bathrooms to allow for peace and space and also gives 4 people the option of having a private room.
The house is beautifully decorated in a quirky bohemian style with lots of places to sit and rest, including a completely private walled garden. There are plenty of books to read and of course, we encourage, walking, swimming and journalling in your spare time.
Travel
There is a train station walking distance from the house. Its a short train journey from the station of Lancaster.
Arnside is also very close to the M6. You leave the M6 at Carnforth and drive for another 15 minutes through country lanes.
The nearest Airport is Manchester and there are regular trains from Manchester to Lancaster, then change to Arnside
